The majority of calls received by the CCSD Fire Department are for emergency medical and rescue services including cliff rescue and auto extrication. The Department responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All Cambria firefighters are trained to render emergency medical care and use automatic external defibrillators. Together with the Cambria Healthcare District (the local ambulance service provider), the CCSD Fire Department provides a team approach to Emergency Medical Services delivery.

In Case of Emergency (ICE)

Pre-programming your cell phone with the word "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) may save your life. This allows emergency responders and hospital personnel to obtain critical information about you and your medical care that could aid in your treatment. For more information on this program, call the CCSD Fire Department at 805-927-6240.

Mutual Aid

The Cambria CSD Fire Department and Cambria Healthcare District (CCHD) work with other local agencies to ensure a team approach to emergency medical care in Cambria. When someone calls 911, they benefit from a mutual aid agreement that brings assistance from the CCSD Fire Department, California Department of Forestry, San Luis Obispo County Fire Department and CCHD. This coverage allows a 4-minute emergency response time to any location, greater than 90 percent of the time, within the CCSD service area and ensures that the special needs of Cambria residents are addressed in the most efficient manner. The Cambria CSD Fire Department maintains daily Advanced Life Support paramedics, is up-to-date on emergency response procedures, and is equipped with oxygen, EKG’s, medication and other advanced life support equipment. The Department’s trained personnel can help stabilize an individual with medical or traumatic emergencies; personnel from the CCHD will provided continued treatment and transport to definitive hospital care.

Emergency Services - Ocean Rescue

The North Coast Ocean Rescue (NCOR) is a team of volunteers dispatched through the 911 system to ocean emergencies from Morro Bay to the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse. NCOR was formed in July of 1994 as a joint agency effort between the CCSD Fire Department and Cambria Community Healthcare District. Today, the North Coast Ocean Rescue Team is funded by the Cambria Community Services District and community donations and operates under the direction of the Fire Department.
