Fire Prevention Week October 3-9, 2021
The Cambria Fire Department is hosting Fire Prevention Week virtually this year due to COVID-19. Fire Prevention Week is celebrated October 3-9, 2021 and this year's theme is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety."
This year’s theme "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety" covers the different sounds alarms make, and the action needed based on that sound, which is critical to preventing injury and death from fire. The theme pays particular attention to smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and alert devices that meet the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing. These includes strobe lights, low frequency alarms, and bed/pillow shakers which activate at the sound of the alarm. In a fire, mere seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy. Fire safety education isn’t just for school children. Teenagers, adults, and the elderly are also at risk, making it important for every member of the community to take some time during Fire Prevention Week to review the educational resources below and make sure they understand how to stay safe in case of a fire.
