SEIU & MCE Employees
Every full-time employee shall earn paid vacation at the prescribed rate under Section 3.2 as part of his/her compensation. Employees shall also earn vacation credit during any paid leave. Regular, non-temporary, part-time employees accrue vacation time on a pro-rata basis according to the percentage of full-time work assigned the position.
A. Vacation shall be earned as follows:
- 1 through the end of the 5th year of service (60 months):
3.08 hours biweekly (80 hrs./yr.)
- 5 through the end of the 10th year of service (120 months):
4.61 hours biweekly (120 hrs./yr.)
- 10 through the end of the 15th year of service (180 months):
6.15 hours biweekly (160 hrs./yr.)
- 15 years or more (180 months plus one day):
7.69 hours biweekly (200 hrs./yr.)
B. Employees designated as executive, administrative, managerial, supervisory, or professional may be entitled to additional days of vacation as provided by specific Board action.
C. During the initial probationary period (not promotional probation) a full-time employee will accrue vacation time to his/her account at the rate of 3.08 hours biweekly but may not make use of the accrued vacation time until probation has been satisfactorily completed. An exception to this limitation may be made by the Manager if he determines that it is warranted due to an employee’s hardship need for use of paid time off.
D. An employee’s proposed vacation schedule must be recommended by the employee’s Department Head and approved by the Manager in order to assure it does not unduly interfere with District operations.
E. Vacation cannot be taken before it is earned.
F. An employee who has accrued vacation time will be entitled to cash payment for unused vacation leave upon separation from District service. Payment will be at the employee’s then current salary rate.
G. As of the end of the first full pay period in June of each year, an employee shall have an accrual balance of no more than the number of vacation hours he/she is entitled to earn in two years of employment. If an employee’s accrued vacation balance exceeds such accrual limitation, the employee shall be paid cash for the number of excess unused vacation hours on the last paycheck in June of each year. An exception to the number of hours carried over may be made at the discretion of the General Manager.
